About Me

Rachael Fyrn

Rachael Fyrn

My landscaping journey began at Green Gulch Farm and Zen Center where I practiced mindfulness while caring for gardens that reflect the rich ecosystem surrounding the temple. I have since worked on public lands, a large private estate, small San Francisco backyards, and at Filoli Historic Garden as a horticulturist.

My design aesthetic features natural forms, swaths of perennials, curving paths, and stonework. I favor native plants that provide habitat. I also incorporate non-native specimens and flowering bulbs suited to our climate that cooperate with our natives. If you are interested in growing your own food I can create space and guidance for urban agriculture. With a background in horticulture, my designs consider maintenance and how the garden will grow into maturity.

I believe our cities and ourselves are not separate from nature. Urban gardens provide opportunities for us to connect daily with nature while supporting our animal neighbors, enhancing biodiversity, sequestering carbon, and storing groundwater. If my style resonates with you, I would love to design your garden–big or small, public or private.
